What is Sengol?
Let us tell you that the word Sengol is derived from the Tamil word Semmai, which means morality. It has the blessings of the chief Adhinam i.e. the priests of a major religious monastery of Tamil Nadu. Sengol has a lot of importance in the democratic history of India. It is said that when India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru took over as Prime Minister, it was handed over to him.
It is also said that it was handed over when power came to India from the British government. In such a situation, it is also seen as a show of power. Its founder is said to be C. Rajagopalachari, who was greatly inspired by the Chola Empire. Sengol was made by Vumudi Bangaru Chetty, a goldsmith from Chennai, after which it was handed over to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru by Lord Mountbatten on 15 August 1947. In appearance, Sengol is a five feet long stick, on top of which Nandi, the vehicle of Lord Shiva, is seated. Nandi represents justice and impartiality.
